Unformatted text preview: Cory McAndrews September 10, 2007 American Music Prof. Boerckel Dear Anita, I am writing to tell you about some of the things I have discovered here in Bear Creek, North Carolina. If you are wondering why I am here, it is because I have had some disagreements with the university and I decided to come visit my sister for a while. On a more positive note, I have discovered some very exciting things among the people here pertaining to their music. One of the first days that I was here, a young girl named Deladis began to sing and would you believe it, she was singing some of the very same ballads I was teaching my students back up north! Many of the songs that are being collected back in England are also being sung here, preserved by the mountain people that were passed down from generation to generation by their ancestors.
