Brother Can You Spare a Dime Braden Davis Week Four Reflection Paper 05/31/2014 The twenty-minute film Brother Can You Spare a Dime focuses on the Great Depression and the events that lead up to it. One of the major things that I liked about this movie is that the film provides the viewer with a large amount of photographs and film that let he or she get a realistic view of what it might have been like to live during that time. In the film, the narrator speculates whether or not the New Deal actually helped the United States. The film says that three main things lead to the economic boom of the early to mid 1920 s, otherwise known as the Roaring Twenties. They are the sale of motor vehicles, electricity that was mainly generated through hydroelectric power, and the chemical industry. In 1919 1.9 million cars were produced, but by 1929 that number nearly tripled to 5.6 million Due to World War One, Europe was very poor and this only benefited the US economy because of a lack of competition.
