Early Philosophers – 400 B.C. i. Zeitgeist has more natural and philosophical explanations ii. Plato – Knowledge is present at birth (Nature) iii. Aristotle – Blank slate (nurture) c. Dark Ages – 500-1500 A.D. i. Religion ruled ii. Negative social climate iii. Persecution, discrimination against women d. Renaissance – 14 th -16 th century i. Period of immense curiosity and open-mindedness ii. Objective questioning iii. Descartes – “I think, therefore I Am” e. Phrenology – late 1800’s i. People believed that you could get your skull read and gain information about personality, strength, and weaknesses. ii.
