Name 6 characteristics shared by all organisms in the Kingdom Animalia. - multicellular - heterotrophs - usually reproduce sexually - cells lack a cell wall - motile during some stage of life - respond to external stimulus due to a response from nerve cells, muscle cells, or both 2. What are the two major categories of animals & which has more members: - Vertebrates - Invertebrates (More members) 3. Define homeostasis: The maintenance of a relatively constant environment, required for the optimal functioning of all cells - What is negative feedback? Produces a response that reserves or negates the initial change (ex: temperature regulation in our bodies & blood pressure) – most common - What is positive feedback? Produces a response that intensifies the original change (ex: childbirth, population growth) 4. Define: - Cell: smallest unit of life - Tissue: groups of cells that perform a similar function - Organ: groups of tissues that function together
