Steve Kaplan Essay I support the statement that the President is the most powerful position in the American government. He not only has an effect on the American government but also has an effect on many foreign governments as well. He affects most of the free world based on his decisions. Some people might argue that Congress is the most powerful because they can overrule many of the president’s decisions. The President has executive powers, legislative powers, and judicial powers. Some executive powers he has are to issue rules, regulations, and instructions. He is the Commander in Chief of the military which allows him to declare war. The president has the power to veto any act of Congress. He also influences the course of legislation in Congress and public opinion. With his judicial powers, he has the power to nominate federal judges and also is able to grant a pardon to any convicted criminal. Now the president plays a huge role in foreign affairs.
