Enzyme Catalyst Design Lab - IB Biology [ Variable : Varying amounts of kitchen salt.] Introduction : Enzymes are proteins that living cells create and acts as catalysts to speed up biochemical reaction while decreasing the energy of activation needed and not being consumed in the reaction. In this design lab, salt will be our our variable that will affect the speed of the enzyme reaction. Depending on the salt concentration, the salt can precipitate or unfold the enzyme. Furthermore, it can also interact with the active site and disrupt hydrogen binding and binding to Ionic residues causing it to decrease, or sometimes increase, enzymatic activity. Purpose : The purpose of this lab is to observe and analyze the effects of variability in Salt Concentrations on the reaction speed of the catalyzed reaction with enzyme catalase and H 2 O 2 (Hydrogen Peroxide). Hypothesis : If salt is present (or the salt concentration increases) in the catalyzed

The ability to access any university’s resources through Course Hero proved invaluable in my case. I was behind on Tulane coursework and actually used UCLA’s materials to help me move forward and get everything together on time.
