Russel-Loretz Subject: Presidential Power and the Executive Order Specific Purpose: After listening to my speech, the audience will be able to understand the scope of presidential policy by executive order. Thesis: While a president’s legislative powers are clearly defined and limited by the constitution, the power of executive order exists to give the president sweeping authority as the nation’s one voice out of many. Introduction: 1. Quote from the presidential oath of office-"I do solemnly swear that I will faithfully execute the office of President of the United States, and will to the best of my ability, preserve, protect, and defend the Constitution of the United States" (Jantzen 249). With this simple recitation, we hand control of the world’s most powerful nation over to one man. 2. We are now all old enough to vote, making the workings of our government more important to us than ever before. 3.
