The components of a sustainable competitive advantage are valuable resources, rare resources, imperfectly imitable resources, and non-substitutable resources. 2. The strategy process starts with assessing the need for strategic change. This first step mainly focuses on avoiding competitive inertia - a reluctance to change strategies or competitive practices that have been successful in the past-and looking for strategic dissonance- A discrepancy between a company’s intended strategy and the strategic actions mangers take when implementing that strategy. The second step is conduct situational analysis. Managers want to first look at the internal environment’s strengths and weaknesses for their distinctive competence and core capabilities. The manager then wants to examine the external environment’s opportunities and threats and you do this by environmental scanning, strategic groups, and shadow strategy task force.
