Situational Leadership Styles 2Everyone has the potential to become a leader within an organization. If there were not any leaders, companies could not survive. They would fail under a blanket of disarray and confusion. A few select people in an organization bloom into a true leader and actually lead and not manage. These people develop certain styles and qualities that they find effective means to lead by. This paper will help explain and define leadership, and explore some styles and theories of leadership.Leadership is something that most everybody desires to have. Leadership is a quality or trait that every individual possesses, but not necessarily uses. Leadership is something that needs to be perfected over a given period of time, which may vary for each individual. Leadership can be defined many ways, but the definition I chose was- Leadership is the process whereby one or several individuals’ influence(s) other group members toward the attainment of defined group or organizational goals. Self-confidenceand having a vision are just a few of the many different traits that leaders can have, although researchers have also found that there is no one specific behavior pattern or body type or even intelligence level required to classify someone as a leader. Generally, when you ask someone what a leader is there is a general answer. That answer is that it is a person that has great influence and power in our society, someone like Bill Gates, President Clinton, or Martin Luther King Jr. These people are all leaders, but there are leaders in every level of our American society. These are people from middle management in the corporate world to inspiring students in campus organizations across the United States. The word leader and leadership go hand in hand.
