Unit 12- The Human muscularand skeletal systemBy Kaitlyn RuizIntroduction and recommendations:Overall, this report is exploring the musculoskeletal system and how its function and structure serve asignificant purpose to the human body, including shape, support, blood cell production andprotection. It will also discuss the structure of the muscles cell, tissues and connective tissues andtheir function in the skeletal system. Additionally, it will explain muscle contractions and themovements of the human body and will explain the biomechanics used to support these movements.Lastly this report will explore bone growth and repair and discuss how certain factors such as ageand disease will affect the locomotion of the human body.It is recommended to use a variety of sources and conduct a wider range of research to finalise aclear and concise report. It is also recommended to use a selection of diagrams and images assupporting evidence to my findings, which are correctly cited and referenced.(The musculoskeletal system, 2018)

Section one:The structure of muscle tissue types, muscle cells and connectivetissues.Connective tissue supports, anchors, and connects various parts of the body. Most types of thesetissues have a nerve and blood supply and consist of different cells that are suspended in amulticellular material called the matrix.Loose connective tissues,this means that the fibres areloosely arranged.Dense connective tissues,this consists of more fibres andless cells.Specialised connective tissuesuch as bone, blood, and cartilage tissue individual specialisedfunctions. The bone protects the organs and gives support. The blood transports nutrients and thecartilage soften movements in the joints.Skeletal muscle:The size, shape and fibre arrangement varydepending on where the muscle is found in the body. Eachskeletal muscle is made up of muscle fibres wrapped in aconnective covering called epimysium. In the muscle is manyseparate bundles of fibres, called fascicles, covered byperimysium, and contains small bundles of elongated cells,the connective tissue protects the muscle from contractileforces. See figure 2.Smooth muscle:fibres are spindle shaped and have single nucleususually in the centre (single unit) or consist of single units that functionindependently of each other (multi-unit). These are under control of theautonomic nervous system and are found in the walls of hollow organssuch as the uterus and bladder.
