System Recommendation Report 3
Midtown Family Clinic is a small private healthcare practice owned and operated by Dr.
Harold Thompson since 1990. The clinic has only two nurses as employees to assist with
administrative and clinical operations. The clinic is facing several operational and financial
challenges currently such as variability of patient scheduling, patient flow management, and
staff/provider workflows and long waiting time, increased and redundant workload faced by the
staff. The main reason the clinic is facing all these challenges is because of the paper-based
manual system of record-keeping and managing finances that it follows and to overcome these
challenges, the clinic is considering implementing an EHR (Electronic Health Records) system.
An EHR system will help move a dministrative procedures more smoothly, patients will
experience increased satisfaction and the increased efficiency would enable the clinic to increase
the number of clients. The system would also remove the need to use a third-party company to
bill insurance companies, which would increase the clinic’s revenue which Dr. Thompson is
currently in dire need of since there will be no billing expenses.
ABC Medical Consultants Inc. has been hired to conduct an analysis, develop a set of
system requirements, and propose an Electronic Health Records (EHR) system to improve the
Midtown Family Clinic's processes. This System Recommendation Report provides
recommendations for developing specific operational procedures at the Midtown Family clinic to
address staff/patient dissatisfaction, focus on quality improvement, cost reduction, and enhance
revenue with the implementation of a suitable EHR system.

A well-communicated strategic plan gives access to greater productivity, culture,
empowerment, and overall effectiveness. The use of health information technology (HIT) has
