4BUILDING A BETTER BOSSThe purpose of this assignment is to carry out a case study on Google’s ProjectOxygen (Building a Better Boss). It entails the foundations of management and organizations.After this assignment, I hope to expand my knowledge on Management in general and on all thedifferent findings found in Project Oxygen. I would like to grasp all the different approachesused in management. I also hope that I understand what traits a good leader possesses as I hopeto be one someday, at the end of this case study.
5BUILDING A BETTER BOSS1.The Functions ApproachWhen a manager aims to help his/her employees with career development, he/she mustbe a good leader. The manager must be able to motivate his/her employees and others associatedwith the business by leading them and then showing their appreciation when they comply.Managers should be able to influence employees so that they can achieve the organization’sgoals. They should also be able to resolve conflicts in the business so that the workingenvironment can be healthy. Once the managers have influenced the workers, they will cometogether to work towards the goals of the business; this not only means that the manager canmanage the employees properly, but he/she would become a good leader.In order to have a clear vision and strategy for the team, the manager must be able toplan exceptionally well. The manager has a responsibility to come up with ideas pertaining towhat the business wants to achieve. They also have to obtain the resources to do so. Strategiesshould be put into place and plans must be formulated so that the goals can be accomplished bythe business. Planning involves the objectives of the business and this helps managers to attaintheir goals in the future after analyzing the economy.
