Brief Britain Overview Wednesday, February 5, 2014 9:34 AM Government: Coalition : Bigger part of the coalition gets to name the prime minister while the smaller part of the coalition gets to name ministers in different sectors etc. Vote of No Confidence: General election must happen every 5 years but a government once formed is not guaranteed 5 years. At any point, the Opposition or the party within can call for a vote of no confidence. If election were to be held now, current government would lose their mandate. Comes from a member of the Opposition in Parliament Seldom occurs in Britain but occurs often in other systems. Reason for Vote of No Confidence: Blair faced this charge because of British participation in the Iraq War; unpopularity; Blair resigned.
