Any woman who was unfaithful to husband was considered an outlaw, a criminal. Socially unacceptable. Ku – mysterious knight errand Liu Wu-Shuang. Lover Wang Hsien-k’o. Liu’s father was executed and the whole family was punished (kept in palace?). Ku came in to help save Wu-shuang out of the palace so that she could be with her lover. Taoism—The Way. They are known for their magical ways. Magic potions, charms etc. A Taoist priest snuck in some potion into the palace. Wu-shuang took it and became like dead. She was then delivered out of the palace by Ku to Wang. She came back gradually to life. Ku killed people who were in the way of this. He didn’t want anyone who knows about this to survive. He then killed himself. Gave his life to the couple. *stories of people/love against government authorities/evil forces were popular
