Nurse turnover is defined as how long employees stay in their employment position (Currie & Carr, 2012). However, there are many more definitions that result in various turnover rates. Nurse turnover has a high impact to health care services, nursing shortage, and quality of patient care. Many nursing leaders and managers are facing with this issue; therefore, it is the utmost important roles and responsibility for them to find the solution. This paper will discuss nurse turnover issue and how it impacts quality of care and patient safety. This paper will also discuss the professional standard of practice, the role of nurse leader and managers, and the leadership style to approach this issue.
