Modes of Persuasion When an author wants to persuade an audience, they can make three different appeals. We often use the Greek terms to refer to the different appeals: Ethos, Pathos, and Logos. Ethos Ethos refers the author’s trustworthiness. Do we believe them? Do they have the education or experience required to talk about the subject?
