Andrew Fausett February 5, 2008 Philosophy Test 1 I. 1.Heraclitus believes that Philosophy is the Logos meaning the word. He wrote on page 3 that “all things follow from the word.” This quote shows how much Heraclitus believed in the Logos. Heraclitus describes the wise as “Wisdom is the oneness of mind that guides and permeates all things”(Page 13). What he means by this is that the good decisions in life that we make are what makes us wise. Heraclitus later describes the ignorant as people whose souls give into temptation. An example that shows this is when Heraclitus says, “Moisture makes the soul succumb to joy” (Page 47). He means by this that alcohol can cause the soul to wander off into ignorance. This all relates to the Logos or the word in which if one lives by the word and the soul than they are wise, however if one ignores the word then they have become ignorant for they are not living for the soul and have not changed. II. 2. Plato believes there are two different realms of god. The first realm is that of the immortal and infallible, the second is the realm created by the Demiurge which Plato states is “not entirely immortal and indissoluble”(Page 57).
