Relationship Between Private and Public Police2Relationship Between Private and Public PoliceWhen we look at the roles of both private security and public police, one can see that the overall goal is the prevention of crime. Crime prevention is a much easier task when the two work together with a professional relationship, unfortunately this is not always the case. In orderto understand why the relationship between private security and public police has been a rough one we must examine the negative views and the opinions that divide these two sectors. The debate over whether or not public safety should be privatized has been an ongoing issue for a while now. Many citizens feel that private security officers are not as adequate as public police officers. Public police officers go through an extensive training academy where they not only learn the laws of the state and county they will patrol, but also the rules and regulations of their department. Private security officers work mainly on the needs of their employer and/or the client. By doing this private security officers focus less on "public safety and individual rights” (Goldstein, 2007).
