Katherine Brown Case: THE OVERPAID BANK TELLERS 1. I think the original strategy to compensation should be examined. Mr. Duncan states that he has a results based system and there are automatic cost of living raises, which he does not approve but doesn’t see an alternative. I believe the salaries are so much higher due to these raises for cost of living. It is state in the text that cost-of-living adjustments are often inaccurate. These adjustments are tied to the Consumer Price Index and that has been known to be overstated. I believe these COLA are the reasons for the inflated salaries of the tellers compared to that of equal status. I believe I would do away with cost of living raises all together. It is hard to be accurate and has little to do to recognize employees for their relative contributions to the organization. Instead, maybe there are other standardized pay adjustments that may be considered such as seniority, across-the-board adjustments, and lump-sum increases. However,
