lastname1Beauty by Jane MartinStudent’s NameInstitutional affiliation Beauty by Jane MartinBeauty by Jane Martin is a play that reveals how people only focus on their ugly sidesand the beautiful side of other people. It reveals the selfish nature of human beings and howpeople get blinded by the outside appearance rather than the inside. The main characters areCarla and Bethany and are the opposite of each other. Carla is an unsuccessful model and isdescribed to be very beautiful (McMahan , 2017) . Bethany on the other hand is a talentedwriter, accountant but lacks beauty. The irony is that neither of the girls appreciates what theyhave and instead admires what the other person has. Carla and Bethany share common traits thatare common in the modern-day woman. Through the two characters, the author develops thetheme of self-image which may reflect her experiences or that of her friends. Considering heridentity as a modern woman from Kentucky, it makes sense that she may have used the twocharacters to mirror her life. It is also worth noting that despite their differences in views andappearances, Carla and Bethany still manage to have a close friendship. The author successfullyportrays the two women as all-rounded and young individuals who are not complicated. They arealso professionals in the different fields they work in and their conversations reveal a lot abouttheir nature and beliefs. This essay shall focus on the author’s main points and how relatable theyare to many young individuals in the current society.
