A CHRISTMAS CAROL THEME ESSAY The theme of A Christmas Carol by Charles Dickens shows how greed does not have to control your life but that by taking different steps you can become generous. Scrooge, the main character of the story, is very greedy. One example of how Scrooge was greedy is when he constantly refused to donate to charities even when asked. Another way greed was shown in A Christmas Carol was when Scrooge never wanted to pay his electric bills, so he just lived in the dark. The last way greed is shown is when Scrooge does not want to pay Bob Cratchit the money he deserves. He does this because he wants to save as much money as possible. This story shows how you can take different steps to change your life. Scrooge does this when he is visited by the spirit of Christmas past.
