5-4 Sampling Distributions and Estimators Objectives : Students will be able to: Define the sampling distribution of a statistic; Learn basic principles about the sampling distribution of sample means and the sampling distribution of sample proportions. We are on our way to learning about the branch of inferential statistics. Inferential statistics is concerned with estimating population parameters and hypothesis testing. The main question of this section is: What statistics make good estimators of population parameters? Recall that statistics are based on sample data drawn from populations. We are going to sample with replacement to draw sample data from populations. This technique works well with small samples from large populations. Sampling with replacement guarantees that we are dealing with independent events which will allow us in the future to work with simple formulas rather than more complex formulas.
