V. Productivity Initiatives A. Improving Current Operation The first the two major areas of concern for Darden Restaurant Inc is on the home front. The restaurant business is a people business, and they must increase success through quality and appeal of their existing restaurant chains. Darden has broken this down into three “strategic imperatives”. 1. Culinary and Beverage Excellence- was recognized in 2002 as an integral part of the Darden dining experience. Their goal is to redefine standards for casual dining and raise the bar with innovation and continual commitment. Though already top of the line, in this increasingly competitive market, a firm cannot stay idle and maintain its status. 2. Service and Hospitality Excellence- was pointed out in 2003 when Darden restaurant’s received ratings well below expected in this area, reminding them that a successful restaurant must revolve around giving customers a great all around experience.
