Unformatted text preview: In the rest of the play, Hamlet bewilders us by his varying moods and activities; in the soliloquies, he lays bare his true motives and his true weaknesses. Discuss and Illustrate. During the duration of the play, Hamlet , young Hamlet portrays his real emotions and intentions in his soliloquies. Hamlet puts all cover-ups aside and expresses his real motives. What is man, if he merely spends his life sleeping and eating? No better than a beast. Surely the God who gave us the ability to think logically, and to conceive of past and future, didnt endow us with that skill and reasoning power for it to grow moldy in us from disuse. I dont know whether its brutish ignorance, or some cowardly indecision caused by thinking far too deeply about the consequences thats makes me put things off. (pg.223) During this quote, it shows that Hamlet really believes that man is just a beast if he doesnt act upon his instincts. He is saying that indecision is a sin and one should do if he doesnt act upon his instincts....
