English 301 Shakespearean sonnet: - A Shakespearean sonnet is also known as an English sonnet as he was the most influential sonnet writer in England at the time and his style became very popular in the nation. - A vast majority of English sonnets were written in iambic pentameter, not all of them, but most. - An English sonnet is one stanza that consists for 14 lines. These 14 lines are split into three grouping. - There are three quatrains which consist of 4 lines. The final two lines are grouped together and called a couple. - In the first quatrain there is a rhyming pattern of a-b-a-b. This means that first line rhymes with the third and the second with the fourth. - In the second quatrain the rhyming scheme is c-d-c-d. Again the first and third lines
