Module Aims This module aims to introduce you to the relationships between health, disease and physical activity, exploring the effects and benefits of exercise in relation to disease morbidity and mortality. The content of the module includes prevalence of activity/inactivity and measurements of physical activity, how we measure physical activity and fitness, and examples of some common diseases for children’s and adolescent health and ageing. The module has been designed to aid you in the development of appropriate knowledge and skills, applicable to current working practices, within the multidisciplinary work environment of sport and health. Learning Outcomes By the end of the module you should be able to: 1. Describe the key indices of health. 2. Describe a theoretical rationale to support the health benefits of undertaking an exercise programme. 3. Identify the public health initiatives and recommendations for physical activity for a local town. 4. Discuss the current health related exercise recommendations. Changes in relation to previous year Student feedback was very positive particularly with respect to support of the teaching team. No changes have been made to content or assessment strategy. Online delivery of theoretical content and assessment support are in place due to current guidance related to COVID-19. 2
