Module Philosophy This module which will enable you to develop a broad understanding of Sport and Exercise Management. This will provide you with a foundation for developing deeper understanding in future modules. The aim of the module is to provide students with the basic knowledge and understanding of key aspects of Sport and Exercise, covering patho-physiology of trauma within Sport, assessment of injuries as well as providing an understanding of injury rehabilitation, functional anatomy along with the application of a range of therapeutic modalities. This module will use both a theoretical base as well as practical/on-line elements to develop the basic understanding of key areas and, importantly, the application of theoretical principles which will enhance your knowledge. We expect you to take an open and independent approach to your studies. We expect you to prepare material (as indicated in advance and on Blackboard) in advance of sessions and this study will be used and further developed within the practical sessions. The knowledge you develop from this module will be crucial in thinking about the journey a sports person takes from an initial injury, through to assessment, structures damaged, the application of ice, all the way through to injury rehabilitation. I look forward to working with you. Please do not hesitate to ask if you are unclear about anything. All the best, Paul Ashworth 2
