Hughes is a black writer. In some of his poems, they have a basic theme based on the separation between African-Americans and whites. When showing the diversity between these two races, Hughes also portrays the true side of a person and where they belong in life. Also in some of Hughes’ poems based on race he uses specific dialogue related to thesouth. The upbringing and background of Langston Hughes is shown a lot in his poetry through the different themes he uses. When Langston Hughes was growing up, blacks were treated differently than theyare now. His poems display the differences and separation of the two groups.
