Name: Joseph Youkhanna CHM2230 : Section 11 Title: Diels-Alder Reaction Date: March 7 th , 2007 Purpose: One of the most interesting and important reactions in Organic Chemistry is the Diels-Alder cycloaddition reaction. This experiment involves a Diels-Alder reaction and then the intermediate product proceeds to undergo intramolecular nucleophilic addition to the anhydride functionality. This experiment will help us determine the structure of our product based on all available spectroscopic data as well as the chemical literature. Balanced Equation(s): Mechanisms (Reaction Scheme): Table of Reagents: Reagent Name Molecular Weight Mol used 0.40g of maleic anhydride 98.96 g/mol .0041 mol 0.40g of E, E-2, 4-hexadien-1-ol NA NA 5 mL of toluene 92.14 g/mol .047 mol Boiling Stone (1) Procedure: As per lab manual

The ability to access any university’s resources through Course Hero proved invaluable in my case. I was behind on Tulane coursework and actually used UCLA’s materials to help me move forward and get everything together on time.
