The use of and abuse of illegal and prescription drugs are a health, social, and law enforcement problem that is affecting Americans across the country. It can be used many different areas such as schools, colleges, all professions, and the industry. According to the National Survey on Drug Use and Health (NSDUH), 19.7 million American adults (aged 12 and older) battled a substance use disorder in 2017. Anyone can be prone to drugs, but mostly the cases found and proved are teenagers and adults ranging from 11-29 years of age. In America, drug use is most common among the young people age sixteen to seventeen (19.2 percent) and eighteen to twenty (17.3 percent) But what exactly is a drug? “Drugs are substances that change a person’s mental or physical state. They can affect the way your brain works, how you feel and behave, your understanding and your senses. This makes them unpredictable and dangerous, especially for young people.” (Australian Government Department of Health) Millions of people are abusing many different types of drugs today that are affecting the way the body functions. The effects of drugs vary on the person’s size, gender, mood, fitness, diet, and age. The environment in which it is taken makes a difference. Some people become angry, depressed, or overly talkative. There are variety of ways one can use drugs but some of the most common methods are swallowing tablets or drinking liquids, breathing them into the lungs,snorting into the nose , injecting, through the skin.
