Chris Wells Chemistry 205 Dr. Hill Biography I believe that art is something that cannot be defined to such stringent guidelines as most other words. But art is something that defines the artist, their persona and emotions. I don’t really think I can describe art either because as an artist myself art describes and defines me. Unformatted text preview: it is directly related to materials and mediums. The first thing that comes to mind is the use of glazes in ceramics. Glaze ingredients react with each other to bring about a certain result, usually in color or texture. I have had many interactions with both art and chemistry, also positive and negatively. Although most have been positive when working with glazes, some have been negative when working with other mediums like metal. When working with glazes most are positive because someone else has already done some trial and error to find out what will bring about the desired results. I work for the most part with metal, and I usually have problems working with different types of metal and their reactions to heat because of the welding or soldering being done. I am taking this course because I want to know what makes materials behave the way they do and also to find interesting things to do with my students....
