Chris Wells Math 105 Summary Beyond Arithmetic The world of education has been a long road of repetition and tradition. When we have something that worked for previous generations does not mean that it works for the students of today. It is much easier to float by and just do the typical math drill rather than thinking of something creative and new. This is also met with a, “Why should we change?” attitude. When all we are throwing at the youth of today is drills and standardization it would become very routine and boring for both the students and the teachers. We need to change the way we teach math, so that instead of students dreading the bell they will lose track of time and enter into a mathematical discussion. We have determined that math has changed very little since the time our grandparents were in school. Memorizing facts and procedures only. We also felt like getting the right answer was the only way to do math. Math was always just being alone working with pencil and paper. We were always told that practice
