MasteringPhysics: Assignment Print View Welcome to MasteringPhysics! MasteringPhysics is a program that presents homework problems assigned by your instructor and works with you to solve them. Problems in MasteringPhysics have an introduction (this text), possibly a figure (below), and one or more questions or "parts" for you to answer (to the right). Here's how MasteringPhysics will help you with your homework: The program tells you immediately whether or not your answers are correct. Usually, you will have multiple chances to get the correct answer. Your instructor will determine how many tries you get. In many problems, hints are available for when you get stuck. If you don't need them to solve the problem, you can still use them for review later on. If you submit an incorrect answer, the program often responds with specific, helpful feedback. The program is forgiving of typos and formatting mistakes. If it can't figure out what you entered, it will let you know and give you another chance. Upon completing each part, you are able to advance to the next, until you arrive at the final question. To see how all of this works, try working through the questions to the right. Part A How many squares are in this grid ? The picture frame icon lets you know that an image goes along with this part. When it appears, click the icon to make the image appear in the lower left-hand corner of your screen. The image for this particular part should already be visible. Enter your answer in numerical format in the box below and then click to submit your answer. MasteringPhysics: Assignment Print View Congratulations on completing your first part successfully! What you are reading now is called a "follow-up comment." These comments typically offer more information or provide an interpretation of the answer you just obtained. Before you move on to a slightly more challenging question, have a quick look at the other buttons available around the answer box: Clicking will give you the answer to the question if you can't figure it out on your own. Your instructor controls whether or not this button is available on a given assignment. If it is not available, it will be replaced by the button. Clicking brings up a new window that lists all of the answers you have submitted so far for this question, along with any helpful responses that MasteringPhysics gave. When you start to encounter problems with answers that are mathematical expressions, clicking will show you a nicely rendered representation of your answer. You'll learn more about this in a later problem. You might be starting to think about how these problems will eventually be graded.
