Prof. Jewell LIT 1000 28 April 2012 An Unfortunate Encounter It was a crisp, clean day. The sky was painted with a mixture of stunning pale blue and pearl white hues. The light from the sun brightly shone down on the schoolyard, making it lit with glowing radiance. The birds chirped melodiously, the fields were a rich green and freshly cut, and the scent of slightly wet grass mixed with the aroma of freshly bloomed daises danced in the air. Lucy Gilbert took a deep, long breath then slowly exhaled and started to walk towards the school doors. First day of senior year, how am I going to survive this? thought Lucy nervously. A new town, a new school, and of course, new people. Yet again Lucy would be the new girl at school just waiting to be bombarded with ridicule and embarrassment. Lucy made her way to the front door and slowly opened it, let the torture begin, she thought as she gulped. Little did she know, she was in for much more than she expected this time. Lucy walked aimlessly through the halls struggling to balance her things in one hand and class schedule in the other. She wandered around the school for about twenty minutes with no luck trying to find her first period class. Finally, she gave up and collapsed down on a nearby bench and exhaled. I should just skip first period, there is no way I’m going to find my class now. This school is just too huge, and besides I’m already late and I hate walking in late, Lucy discussed with herself. “Hey, are you lost?” A sudden voice interrupted her thoughts. Lucy looked up to find a pair of twinkling, gorgeous honey brown eyes looking right at her. “Umm, no, I mean yes, I mean, kind of.” Lucy stammered. She couldn’t believe it, he was beyond
beautiful. Tall, lean and muscular with shiny, slicked back chestnut brown hair, and a killer smile. Not to mention his eyes were absolutely gorgeous. He wore a red fitted shirt and dark blue denim jeans, Lucy liked his style. The stranger just threw his head back and laughed adorably. “Why are you so nervous? Are you new here or something? I haven’t really seen you around. By the way, I’m Jeff,” he flashed a smile and extended his hand. Lucy just stared at his hand, and then nervously extended her own hand forward to shake it. “Yeah, actually I am new here,” she said shaking his hand. “I’m sorry, I get a little nervous, but I promise I’m not a freak. I’m Lucy,” she said cracking a small smile as some of her nervousness began to fade away. “Well, I’m glad to see you have a little sense of humor Lucy,” Jeff said as he chuckled. “But hey listen, I’m already late for class I have to run, I’ll see you around okay?” Jeff smiled flirtatiously as Lucy smiled back and nodded her head, and then he took off racing down the hall. A goofy smile formed on Lucy’s face as she sighed dreamily, and then went off to the bathroom to retouch on her hair and makeup in case she had another little run-in with Jeff later on.
