Axial Skeleton
SKULL
BONE : Frontal
Features: Supraorbital notch/foramen - hole or “indent” above eye socket
Parietal
Be able to side both left and right sides of the parietal bones
Temporal
Petrous portion - on the inside of the skull, rough part of the temporal bone
Squamous portion - the large smooth side on the outside of the skull. By Squamousal suture.
Zygomatic process and arch - part of the bone that meets up with the zygomatic bone
External auditory canal - “ear hole”
Styloid process - on the inferior part of the skull that sticks out “stylus-like”
Mastoid process - just lateral to the styloid process, large part that sticks down that looks like “an
upsidedown mountain”
Stylomastoid foramen - the hole between the styloid and the mastoid processes
Mandibular fossa - where the “jaw” connects; the rubber part on the models
Carotid canal - the only hole that goes all the way through the bone. Next to jugular
Jugular foramen - larger hole just posterior to the carotid canal
Occipital
Foramen
