Comprehensive AssessmentAbstractPaula Cortez is a 43-year-old Latina woman from Colombia. At a young age, Paula ran awayfrom her home in Columbia due to her family being emotionally and physically abusive. TheCortez family consist of Paula, David, her ex-husband and Miguel, her son. Paula is a bilingualwoman who lives in New York City. Paula had to give up custody of her son Miguel due to herongoing medical issues, issues in which continue to impact her. Paula has a positive diagnosis ofHIV, HEP C, bipolar disorder, as well as circulatory problems. Later in her life, Paula becomespregnant from an encounter she had give a man she met, the man that she was seeing was doingdrugs, and was emotionally and verbally abusive to Paula. Paula has to make an importantdecision on whether or not keeping the child or having an abortion would be a better decision forher, due to her ongoing medical issues as well as her limited ability to care for self. Her medicaldoctor as well as her social worker have expressed to Paula, the potential risks associated withher having this child. In this paper, I will provide two assessments to identify Paula’s strengths,and further analyze the options her interdisciplinary team has provided her with.
