Perosio, PhD. 151 Warren Hall 255-1588 djp7 Course Support: Gail Keenan 104 Warren Hall gpk5 Business: Cornell Orchards Cornell Dairy Store Class Times and Location: Lecture 1: MW 12:20 – 1:10 Lecture 2: MW 1:25pm – 2:15 pm Course Overview The course offers students, working in teams, the opportunity for an intense, hands-on application of basic marketing concepts through research and development of a marketing plan. Guided by a series of assignments, teams develop key components that are integrated into a comprehensive written plan for a local business. A trade show presentation of the plan is also required. All AEM majors registered in AEM 240 Marketing , are required to take AEM 241. Course Content The course begins with a discussion of the role marketing plans play as a tool in strategic planning and how they can be adapted and used to meet the unique marketing challenges faced by small businesses. Teams then begin to work on a series of assignments, each one leading to the completion of a polished draft of one component of their marketing plan. These assignments are graded by the teaching assistants and professor and returned to the teams with extensive written feedback. AEM 241 Marketing Plan Development and Team Building Fall ‘07 Prof Perosio teams have re-written each component integrating suggestions made by the teaching assistants either in written feedback or during subsequent consultations. At the end of the semester, teams are also required to present their plans in a trade show format called the Marketing Plan Showcase . To prepare, teams construct a 3-panel table- top display and collateral materials highlighting the marketing tactics developed in their plan. Specific Course Objectives After completing this course, students should be able to: Articulate the unique marketing challenges faced by small businesses Know and understand how to construct basic components of a marketing plan Produce high quality, professional business writing Design and construct an effective trade show style presentation Work effectively in teams Academic Integrity Students in this course are expected to conduct themselves in accordance with the Cornell University Code of Academic Integrity and Acknowledging the Work of Others (www.cornell.edu/Academic/AIC.html).
