For Billy’s case, it is my responsibility to make sure he learns and remains in asafe environment. The bottom line of teaching is enhancing students’ learning and theirlife chances by challenging the inequities of school and society (Haddad, 2019). As ateacher, it is important to first identify biases or inequities and then look at the differentperspectives (Gorski & Pothini, 2018). As a teacher, it is important to educate mystudents especially in this case. A legal aspect I need to consider in how I respond tothe issues is, privacy and confidentiality, as well as bullying. Billy’s family should remainprivate and confidential, because Billy is his own person. It is also important to makesure Billy is not experiencing bullying of any sort, especially by the way the students aretreating him, it may be likely he is experiencing bullying. As a teacher, it is important tomake sure to educate my students and make them aware, they may have to work withpeople who believe differently than you in the workforce, but that does not mean youhave to be disrespectful or cruel to the person gaining the same education as the rest ofthe class.First, I need to identify the problem. The big problem in the scenario is Billy, thestudent, attends a school in a conservative community that is very religious. Thestudents in his class do not associate with him, or make him a part of the grouping bychoice. Mr. Adams made group assignments after students in the class chose not towork with Billy, and the students were not happy and complained to parents. Darrell, astudent who did not agree with Billy’s parents’ lifestyle, said he would not be workingwith Billy due to religious beliefs. Darrell’s parents also agreed and made sure to makeit known, Darrell should not have to work with Billy.
