Net neutrality prohibits internet service providers from speeding up, slowing down, or
blocking Internet traffic based on its source, ownership, or destination. Net neutrality
advocates argue that it should be illegal for broadband service providers to charge content
providers for sending data down the broadband provider's high-speed lines no matter how
much bandwidth that content uses. Proponents of net neutrality worry that broadband service
providers can exercise monopoly power in the market for broadband connections. Net
neutrality has been the main driver of the growth and innovative applications of the Internet.
