This podcast was very interesting, I have always had a good attitude towards
Thanksgiving although this made me think differently and how we should pay more respect to
how the Native Americans were treated during this time. Native Americans often say
Thanksgiving Day is a reminder of the killing of millions of Indigenous people along with a
crazy amount of land and resources being taken from them. Such as the kidnapping for several
Wampanoag men from Patuxet in 1614. These Native people would be taken to Cape Cod and
sold as slaves in Spain.
The Wampanoag Peoples had a long political history dealing with other
Native Nations before the English arrived. The Wampanoag shared their land, food, and
knowledge of the environment with the English. Without help from the Wampanoag, the English
would not have had the successful harvest that led to the First Thanksgiving.
