Abstract: The purpose of this lab was to learn the process of dehydration of alcohols and liquid-liquid extraction by using drying agents through fractional distillation. The experimental plan for this experiment was to dehydrate cyclohexanol to form cyclohexene under acidic conditions. During this lab, a small amount of cyclohexanol was weighed and added to a round bottom flask and it was heated using fractional distillation. As it was heated and boiled, it formed a product and the product was then placed into a separatory funnel to form two layers. As a result of placing the product in the separatory funnel, it formed two layers one aqueous and one organic layer. The theoretical number of moles for both reactants was found to be 0.069 mol. The actual yield was found to be 5.20g with a percentage yield of 91.7%

The ability to access any university’s resources through Course Hero proved invaluable in my case. I was behind on Tulane coursework and actually used UCLA’s materials to help me move forward and get everything together on time.
