SANTA BARBARA COUNTY TAKES STEPS TO LIMIT DROUGHT IMPACT Because of the severe drought in California right now, several people and businesses are taking measures for water conservation and fire safety. The ALS Association is an organization trying to fight amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, a muscle debilitating disease. The “ALS Ice Bucket Challenge” has gone viral as people post videos of themselves dumping ice water over their heads and nominating others to do the same, in addition to donating to the organization. According to KEYT news, one Britanny App decided that wasting water in California’s state of drought would not be a good idea. Instead she developed the 5 Gallon Challenge, where she, with her husband, filled up a 5 gallon bucket with water and used only that water for an entire day. They filmed themselves using it for everything from brushing teeth to showering. The average American uses 100 gallons of water a day. App points out that it’s not about saving the 5 gallons, but saving the 95 gallons you didn’t use. After the full day, the nominee then
