John Patty English 102 Professor cockandballs April 4, 2008 Fight Club Fight Club is one of the most controversial theatrical releases ever made. The mere idea of a club where men do nothing but fight each other is edgy enough without the other themes presented throughout this film. This film explores the way advertisements relate to males in our society, homoerotic tendencies in every straight male. These themes are what makes Fight Club one of the most interesting and influencial films of our time. Throughout the film the characters Jack and Tyler often comment on advertisements they see around them. The most memorable of these scenes is when they board a bus and notice a Calvin Klein underwear ad. Jack asks Tyler “Is that what a man looks like?” This comment shows the lack of connection most men have with the advertisements for products meant for them. It brings about the realization that these advertisements are not made so men will buy the products for themselves but because women see the advertisements and want their men to look like that.
