English 1010 / Summary For this assignment, your task is to write an effective academic summary (or précis) of an article. Choose one of the following articles from Language Awareness : Hairston’s “What Happens When People Write?” (79); Flower’s “Writing for an Audience” (88); Lamott’s “Shitty First Drafts” (93); Zinsser’s “Simplicity: (98); or Murray’s “The Maker’s Eye: Revising Your Own Manuscripts”(104). Requirements: 1. The citation of the article or book (according to MLA format). 2. An accompanying paragraph that includes the following: The name of the author, the genre (article, essay, etc.), a rhetorically accurate verb (e.g., “asserts,” “argues,” “suggests,” “implies,” “claims,” “demonstrates,” etc.) and a “that” clause containing the major assertion (thesis statement) of the piece of writing. An explanation of how the author develops and/or supports the thesis. For example: chronological order, case studies, surveys, statistical studies, personal experience,
