Lab 3B: Cloud Computing and Storage 1 LAB 3B: CLOUD COMPUTING AND STORAGE Applied Lab I NTRODUCTION According to the 11th edition of the Barron’s Dictionary of Computer and Internet Terms, the term cloud computing is used to describe, “computing operations carried out on servers that are accessed through the Internet, rather than on one’s own personal computer. For example, many people read their email via cloud computing; that is, they connect to a web site where the server handles the mail. More recently, it has become possible to do work processing, document storage, and other kinds of work ‘through the cloud.’ …” Cloud-based storage is storage space that is accessed over the Internet. Over the past 5 years, cloud-based storage has changed from a storage solution available only to big businesses, to something everyone can use! There are many benefits to using cloud-based storage including: Information you store on the cloud can be easily accessed from anywhere in the world as long as there’s an Internet connection; You can easily share information stored on the cloud with many people; As you change one or more files, many storage providers maintain a copy of old versions of the files (this is known as version control); and, Storing data on a reliable cloud-based storage service is actually safer than storing it on a USB
