1. According to the book the definition of law is “the legal statues that define right and wrong”. Substantive law is what our own society refers law to, it is what we think is right and wrong. Procedural law “refers to the agreed-on ways to settle a dispute”. Legal levels are “disputes can be settles at different levels of authority”. And legal principles are “broad conception of some desirable state of affairs that gives rise to many substantive and procedural rules”. The Zapotec case The case of the disobedient son is an example of substantive law. An example of procedural law, the Zapotec does not allow family disputes in the court. Examples of legal levels for the Zapotec is family elders, witches, local officials, the priest, supernatural beings, or officials in the municipio. Legal principles for the Zapotec is explained by “this principle means that fault-finding in a particular trouble case is not as important as balancing the demands of all parties and restoring conditions of peaceful coexistence”.
