Sean Larson ID# 21792768 Physics II Lab Partner: Evan Kellogg Latent Heat of Vaporization of Liquid Nitrogen ABSTRACT: This lab was performed to measure the latent heat of vaporization of liquid nitrogen. According to Dictionary.com latent heat is when there is heat absorbed or released by a substance that is changing the state that it is in. A perfect example would be liquid nitrogen at room temperature that changes to the gas state over time, latent heat of vaporization. APPARATUS: Styrofoam cup, scale, resistor, liquid nitrogen, switch to activate/deactivate the resistor, and a timer to record the evaporation time in relation to the weight. DATA:

CONCLUSION: During our experiment, we recognized that the scale was faulty and needed to switch to a different one. Because of the faulty scale the data that was recorded for the 1 st trial was not accurate at all. Once the scales were switched, only the second trial was completed. We used the data from trial one with scale one and the data from trial two with scale two. This mixing of data caused our final latent heat calculation to be far off
