Cry, the Beloved Country “Cry, the Beloved Country”is a novel written by Alan Paton in 1948. This is a story about a black pastor who travels to Johannesburg to look for his son. In this journey he learns many things about his country, his family and about himself. Throughout the novel, three main factors can be identified: creation, fall and redemption. These issues will take a really important role in the understanding of the plot. “I have never thought that a Christian would be free of suffering, umfundisi. For our Lord suffered. And I come to believe that he suffered, not to save us from suffering, but to teach us how to bear suffering. For he knew that there is no life without suffering” (Paton). This quote from the book summarizes what can creation-fall-redemptionlead to, just as it did on the story. Creation means that God has created every aspect of this world for good things.
