WORLD WAR II
World War II became the deadliest and widespread
conflict in human history. World War II involved
more than 30 countries and resulted in the death
between 50 and 85 million people. The war saw
conflicts in nearly every corner of the earth and saw
many horrors such as large scale massacres in the Far
East and genocide in Europe. The War officially
began in September 1939 with the German invasion
of Poland and official end in August 1945 with the
beginning of the Nuclear Age.

TREATY OF VERSAILLES
The Treaty of Versailles officially brought an end to the first World War and with it heavy penalties
and punishments against Germany. Germany was held overall responsible for causing the war and
therefore would be responsible for paying for war reparations. This in turn left Germany with heavy
debts and facing further economic issues.
The Treaty of Versailles meant the loss of one third of German territories after the war such as the
Rhineland which an industrial region in Germany. This loss of territory added to the economic
burdens for the German people.
One of the clauses of the treaty was the demilitarization of the German military. With the Russian
Revolution, many in Germany feared that without a military to defend it, Bolshevists could attempt
to over throw the weakened government in Germany. It is because of this, many believe gave rise to
Adolf Hitler and the Nazi Party.
