Section 1 and 2 Explain how the poem is “bewitched” in a way the prose piece isn’t. In your discussion, explain how this is so, referring to specific details in each test. You may also want to include details of your own personal experience reading each piece. The poem, “Canadian Angles” and the prose, “Canadian Women’s Hockey Team,” both discuss the same matter which is embracing the Canadian Women’s Hockey Team for beating the American Team at the 2002 Winter Olympics. However, they both present themself in two different ways. The poem “Canadian Angles,” described as being bewitched. “To enchant and delight” the emotions she is conveying to the reader whilst their reading of the poem; it expresses a strong feeling of passion towards a person, idea, or thought. Despite my personal disinterest in hockey, this poem is so memorable and “gorgeous” in a way. The poet’s repetitive use of the word “Angel '' to describe the women’s action, character and courage, demonstrates the glorifying effect the poem is meant to leave the reader with. Hockey is a sport that is quite known to be dominated by men. It’s a dangerous sport that requires great strength and energy, something in which society deems un-women like. This poem however, shows the beauty that is unseen; the victory of the Canadian Women’s Hockey Team is more than just a win for them but a win for all women and these gender based stereotypes surrounded by them. We can truly feel the emotional side of the poem. The “Candian Women's Hockey Team” gives the audience background information about the Women’s victory. In the poem, the readers were greeted with emotions; the blood, sweat, and tears these players went through to stand victorious. However, we weren’t greeted with much context which is why prior to reading the poem, there was a small paragraph that explained what it was going to be about. The prose, though lacking this sense of emotion and true feelings, provides the reader with factual information which ensures the understanding of the whole event. We were given insight on some of the players and their life outside of hockey, where and who the Women’s Hockey team played against, and also the type of impact their victory is going to have regarding Women’s upliftment in the face of gender adversities. Both forms are important as they both express the same topic in different ways. One helps us understand the main idea by giving us information and the other shows us the passionate and emotional side. Both are effective in order for the reader to interpret different perspectives as they can gain an overall knowledge of this event.
Imagine how the conversation goes. Write it out in script format as though it were a play.
